So You're Worried About Impeachment? Quit Yer Bitchin' and Start Writing!
By CARLA (K.C.) HANSON, 11/13/06
As annoying as it is, I'm not going to worry about the Republican-slung media spin that's just flying right now. Further, I'm not going to worry about the friendly chatter and olive branches offered by Nancy Pelosi. I'm not going to worry about John Conyers, and I sure as hell am not going to worry about Henry Waxman, because I do believe they are committed to democracy. Remember, they are just as mindful as we are about how perverted the mainstream media truly is. For cryin' out loud, a non-FOX network gave Tom Delay a seat at the table as a post-election commentator!
With oversight will come investigation. With investigation will come damning info about Administration shenanigans. With that info being part of sworn testimony will come an impeachment investigation. It has to grow in this manner; it has to be seen in this manner by the general public. Democrats must prove they can steadfastly do the job, and must enter into that job without any appearance of bias.
But this ball will only keep rolling if the American public keeps pushing it.
We have a job, too, and that is not to bitch and moan amongst ourselves about the new majority leaders sounding too nice. That accomplishes absolutely nothing. Our job is to vigorously and continuous demand oversight and investigation. Our job is to tell those leaders that we not only want the truth, but demand the truth. Democrats in Congress, and Republicans too, for that matter, need to be bombarded with emails, phone calls, letters and constituent visits that demand investigation.
And the message is this:
We, the American citizenry, demand that Congress immediately begin investigations into why we are engaged in ongoing, costly conflict in Iraq. We want to know why some intelligence was overstated and why some was ignored in the lead-up to our invasion of a sovereign nation. Further, we want to know why there has been no oversight up to the present time while there has been widespread reporting of improperly supplied troops, extensive graft, and voluminous profiteering.
We demand investigations not out of vindictiveness, but out of a real desire to correct the errors, expose corruption, and foremost, to prevent such a catastrophic situation from ever happening again.
This is the message that every Rep must hear, every day, hundreds of times. This is the message that they must hear in their dreams. This is the message that must resonate as they thumb through their paper, click though their email, or hear from their constituent staffers. If you want to talk about impeachment, fine, but emphasize correcting CURRENT problems and preventing FUTURE mistakes.
This message will surely expand and adapt in the upcoming weeks and months as events unfold. Be prepared to continue your communications and adjust your message, and KEEP THE PRESSURE ON.
Remember the shorter a message is, the more of it gets read.
We mustn't let ourselves get fooled by meaningless chatter for the sake of media images. Remember, the BEST image for Congressional Democrats to have, and the best thing for the sake of this country, is for them to go into this thing with duty-bound, somber resolve. It's up to US to mount the hue and cry.
If we stand aside with our arms crossed, simply sneering at the Democrats because we don't like their demeanor around Republicans, then we are more guilty than they of allowing the same ol' same ol'.
A final thought: many have noted that since only two years are left in the terms of the President and the VP, impeachment proceedings are practically moot. This is a ridiculous attitude. While it's quite likely that the process of investigations and impeachment proceedings could slog on through most of the remaining two years in the Bush presidency, the point is not simply giving GW a swift kick for his transgressions. The point is exposing those transgressions, publicly, on record, under oath.
It's up to us to make sure the truth is exposed.
Go ahead, write your own words, and send your email TODAY. Keep it up!
