“Bush lied. People died. It’s time to be tried.”
Carl Sheeler's February 15, 2006 Speech at the RI State House Rotunda. Carl is a candidate for the US Senate. [PressRelease]
Carl's letter to the RI Assembly.
In the past two weeks since our campaign has erected the “Be Patriotic Impeach Bush” billboard along I-95, we have received thousands of emails, letters and phone calls, not just here in Rhode Island, but from places like Maine, Nebraska, Kansas, Texas and California. I’d like to read an email I received yesterday (attached):
Folks, we hit a nerve of our fellow citizens. Truth told - many were not Democrats.
They are not afraid, as some polls and media would have us believe. They’re angry.
They’re angry over the direction of our country. They’re angry at political insiders whose actions are often at cross-purposes with the public good.
Many feel the only thing “left” about elected Democrats has been “left behind”. Ask Marine and Iraq veteran Paul Hackett of Ohio. We Marines learned, “Never leave anyone behind.” Not the poor. Not the middle class. Not our minorities. Not our seniors. Not those seeking same-gender marriage. And certainly not our troops.
Some say I’m running because I have a cause. In a manner of speaking they’re correct. I am running for US Senate in the name of Truth. The publics’ truth. Not the media’s. Not the political insiders. Not mine. We need an unequivocal voice with the courage and conviction to say “Bush lied. People died. It’s time to be tried.”
In just the past two weeks there has been additional testimony concerning the Bush administration’s lying about its knowledge of the levees breaking and mishandling of the Katrina aftermath.
Republican leadership acknowledges President Bush lied about wiretapping; CIA executives have stated Bush lied about the reasons for declaring War in Iraq. The president lied when he implied he had no association with lobbyist Jack Abramoff.
Bush lied about being strong on defense. Yet, his military spending short-changes combat troops and veterans while enriching cronies and contractors. Bush lied that his wealth tax cuts would not endanger our budget surplus, but we’re over $8 trillion in debt costing every taxpayer over $37,000 and unfairly burdening our children and their children.
Join me in asking my rivals former Attorney General Sheldon Whitehouse and Secretary of State Matt Brown in urging Congressmen James Langevin and Patrick Kennedy to co-sponsor a bill introduced by Rep. John Conyers’ (D-MI). They would be joining 24 other House Democrats in co-sponsoring HR 635, creating a committee to investigate impeachable charges against President Bush.
Now, I am also calling for members of the Rhode Island General Assembly to exercise their right under Section 603 of the United States House Rules to initiate impeachment proceedings by transmitting the attached charges to Congress in a joint resolution.
This will ensure an impeachment resolution reaches the floor of the US House of Representatives.
I agree with Cranston Mayor Laffey, “Let's be the smallest state with the largest voice." You see, I want one of the Bluest states in the country, Rhode Island, to lead the effort to impeach Bush.
Over two-thirds of our citizens want and support Congressman John Conyers, not because he's a Democrat ... but, because it's the right thing to do. I’m asking you today to support my efforts, not because I’m the sure thing, but because it’s the right thing to do.
