March 10, 2007 - Multnomah County Democrats pass an impeachment resolution based on the ongoing war in Iraq. [text]
June 2006 - A Portland DemocracyforAmerica group submits 1,557 individual Jefferson-Rule citizens petitions to impeach Bush and Cheney to Rep. John Conyers to be held until January 3, 2007 for submission to House Judiciary Committee. The group also submitted resolutions to impeach Bush and Cheney to both the Portland City Council and the Multnomah County Commissioners in May with results pending. In addition to holding the July 19 teach-in and lobbying U.S. Reps. Blumenauer, Peter DeFazio, and Darlene Hooley to co-sponsor HR 635, the DFA group has been staging Monday evening rush-hour flash-mobs since January at Portland's major intersections and posting "Impeach" fliers along major thoroughfares for the morning rush hour. It also succeeded in getting the four Democratic challengers for U.S. Rep. Greg Walden's house to agree to co-sponsor HR 635 whichever one defeats that incumbent.
3/15/06 - Portland DFA group begins impeachment-action project:
- lobbies 3 remaining Dem incumbents (Dist. 3,4,5) and 4 Dem challengers (Dist. 2) to co-sponsor HR 635 if elected;
- dispatches 15 teams to paper Portland with “Impeach” fliers;
- prior to first appearance at both City Council/Multnomah County Commission to pass impeach resolution, lobbies members/ incumbents/challengers.
All 4 Dem candidates (Dist 2) pledge (4-9) to co-sponsor HR 635. Klamath Falls Democratic Committee explores replicating actions of Portland DFA group.
2/9/06 - Multnomah County Democrat Central Committee passes resolution supporting Conyers’ HR 635. U.S. Rep. David Wu (incumbent Dist. 1), becomes co-sponsor of HR635.
7/16/05 - Democratic Party of Oregon adopted a resolution asking Congress to immediately begin investigation of the Downing Street memos that could lead to impeachment proceedsing against President Bush, Vice President Chney, and Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld for high crimes and misdemeanors. March 2003 - Some 5,000+ signatures from Portlanders on a petition to impeach Bush are turned in to the office of U.S. Rep. Earl Blumenauer.
