Subject: "In response to your protest at the Inauguration"

This exchange was in January 2005, the day of the Inauguration.

To whom it may concern,

  I am sending this e-mail in reference to a protester I seen at the inauguration parade today. I take great offence to some one accusing our President of being guilty of "War Crimes". Don't get me wrong I do not have a problem with a person freedom of speech. What I do have a problem with is you bleeding heart liberal wanabe Americans thinking that going to war to save lives from a maniacal dictator is not worth the risk being taken. So let me make sure Im getting what you people are trying to say; the freedom of the people of America is not worth dying for? Saying George W. Bush  guilty of war crimes is like calling William J. Clinton or John Kerry  war heros. As far as The United Nations is conserned; they are the biggest hipocrites there is. When other countries are having a crisis (i.e. Bosnia) the U.N. calls on the great country of The United States of America; but when we are in crisis where are they? We had no business in Bosnia. It was a Civil War. But is anyone going to say Clinton is guilty of war crimes? Of course not. What about Mr. Kerry? There are witnesses to the real war crimes that he comitted. But yet you wanted his double talking as the President. I bet you are the same people who want to take " In God We Trust" off the dollar bill & " One Nation Under God " out of the The Pleadge of Allegance.

As far as the Gineva convention, I guess those terrorist kidnaping, beating, not to mention beheadeding their captives. I guess in your eyes that was ok. I do agree the soldiers at the prison were wrong in what they did; But it was not even close to being War Crimes. You may not like Bush or his policies but you do need to respect the man for he is the 2 time elected President of The United States of America. And yes I even heard the chants of " Hey Bush, We Know You; Your Daddy Was a Killer Too ". Just how disrespectful can you people be? Its people like your group that is ripping this country apart; Tearing at the constitution just to make it suit you. What ever happened to " One Nation Under God, Indivisible, With Liberty And Justice For All "? Did you read that? " FOR ALL", "INDIVISIBLE"; You do understand what those phrases mean dont you? Ill even go as far as to bet that over half of your group didnt even vote. A wise old man  (my grandfather) once told me If you dont vote then you have no reason to bitch. I guess to sum this up Ill just say that I find you people dispicable, & shallow minded looking for someone to point a finger at just you didnt get your way. I really do worry abouot the direction this country is headed knowing that people like you are the future of this country.

Hello *****,

Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts. I was not at the
inauguration but since you sent the letter to me I will respond.

I'm not sure who "you people" are. I am an individual person, as are you.

Since you asked, I believe that freedom for America is worth dying for and I would fight for that freedom if necessary. That is why I have such great respect for the brave American soldiers who are willing to risk their lives for America. As soldiers, they are not allowed to question their Commander in Chief. But as an American citizen, it is my responsibility to speak up if I feel their lives are not being used wisely. I think that mistakes are being made in Iraq that are costing American lives. I also feel that the foreign policy that Bush is pursuing is having unintended consequences and is actually making us less secure.

What?! Where on earth did you get that idea? Why would someone who cherishes peace, freedom, love and justice be in favor of terrorist kidnapping. That is an inaccurate statement of my beliefs. Please do not imagine incorrectly what I believe and then criticize me for it.

> Its people like your group that is ripping this country apart;

I think we probably agree on many things. We both love America. We both want America to be strong, safe and free. We both want America to be a shining example of democracy. But we probably disagree on the best way to achieve those goals. Since we have common goals, doesn't it make sense to work together, combining our best ideas to make it happen?

The campaign is over. President Bush is now the president of every American, not just wealthy Christians. I wish that he would consider a diversity of opinions when he makes his policy decisions. But he has chosen to ignore the the voices of half the American people. He also ignores Pentagon generals, ambassadors, foreign leaders, scientists and anyone else who disagrees with him. I think that is unfortunate because the best decisions come from a synthesis of diverse opinions.

Ouch. I respect your opinions even though I disagree you. Please do not disrespect or insult me as a person. Americans should treat each other better.

Why not fix it instead?
